If you do not want to allow other users of your PC access to the Recycle Bin Properties panel, then this post will help you to hide or disable Properties from the Recycle Bin context menu. The Local Group Policy Editor can do the job for you!
Recycle Bin helps you get all the deleted files, as per the default settings. The Properties panel has a couple of options to tweak the settings. You can enable or disable delete confirmation dialog, change the size of Recycle Bin, etc. from the Properties window.
If you try this method on Windows 10 2004, you will see a message The properties for this item are not available. However, if you are using an older version, the Properties option would be removed. Also, you should know that this tip works only for the Desktop icon of Recycle Bin.
Remove Properties from Recycle Bin context menu
To remove, hide or disable Properties from Recycle Bin context menu, follow these steps-
- Press Win+R to open the Run prompt.
- Type gpedit.msc and hit the Enter button.
- Navigate to the Desktop policy in User Configuration.
- Double-click on Remove Properties from the Recycle Bin context menu policy.
- Select the Enabled option.
- Click on OK to save the change.
At first, you need to open the Local Group Policy Editor. Although there are several ways to do that, you can use the Run prompt to get it done. To get started, press Win+R buttons together to open the Run prompt. Then, type gpedit.msc and hit the Enter button. After opening the Local Group Policy Editor, navigate to the following path-
User Configuration > Administrative Template > Desktop
Here you can find a policy called Remove Properties from the Recycle Bin context menu.
If you enable this setting, the Properties option will not be present when the user right-clicks on Recycle Bin or opens Recycle Bin and then clicks File. Likewise, Alt-Enter does nothing when Recycle Bin is selected. If you disable or do not configure this setting, the Properties option is displayed as usual.
You need to double-click on this policy. By default, it should be set to Not Configured. You need to select Enabled and click on the OK button to save the change.
Now, open the Recycle Bin Properties.
If you have done everything successfully, it will not open, or you cannot find the option at all.
