As you know, VLC is popular for its support for wide range of video formats. When it comes to the number of supported video file types, there is no better video player than VLC.
However, some features offered by lesser known video playback software are not present in VLC. For instance, there is an option called Play from latest position in GOM Player, which when enabled, starts playing video files from the position where you left off last time.
For instance, while watching a movie on GOM Player, if you had to close the GOM Player at 14.57 minutes for some reason, next time when you play the same movie using GOM, GOM Player will automatically start playing the movie from 14.55 minutes instead of starting from the beginning. That is, GOM Player simply remembers the last position for video files. This is a wonderful feature especially for those who watch movies while travelling and also those who can't watch movies in one go due to time constraints.
For some reason, VLC doesn't remember video or movie positions out of the box. Luckily, we can get this handy feature in VLC by installing one of the two extensions out there.
Remember Position for VLC
Remember Position is a free extension to remember the position of video files played using VLC. Once installed and enabled, Remember Position remembers the last position of video files played using VLC. In future when you play the same video file, the extension will resume the playback from the position where you left off last time.
And before you jump to the download page, check the version of VLC Player installed on your computer as Remember Position doesn't support VLC 2.1.x versions, according the developer of the extension. In other words, this extension works great on VLC 2.0.8 and previous versions.

Resume Media
Just like Remember Position, Resume Media is another extension to resume the playback from last played position. The good thing about Remember Position is that it supports the latest version of VLC. Once installed, open VLC, click View and then check the option titled Remember Media V2 to enable the extension.
If the extension is not appearing under View, please click the Tools menu, click Plugins and Extensions option, and then click Reload extensions button.
Installing an extension in VLC is not as easy as installing extensions in Firefox or Chrome.
