You may face these problems if you install Windows 10 version 2004

Every version of Windows 10 is known to have bugs that take their time to resolve. The same is the case with Windows 10 2004, aka May 2020 Feature Update. While it is finally a release with less critical bugs, but it has affected a lot of drivers. In this post, we list some Windows 10 2004 Known issues of which there is no resolution at the time of writing this post

Windows 10 v2004 Known Issues

If you are hit by one of the issues, make sure to follow the dedicated status update page to know if there is a workaround or solution. Some of the problems have affected both the Client and Server version of Windows:

These are mostly compatibility issues, and only when the OEMs resolve the problem, it will get a fix.

1] Driver issues

Difficulty connecting to more than one Bluetooth device if you have Realtek drivers. So you may not be able to sync and listen to music at the same time.

Conexant ISST audio drivers receive an error during the update or after the update. It seems they have files uci64a96.dll through uci64a231.dll and a file version lower than 7.231.3.0. Similarly, Conexant or Synaptics audio devices are throwing issues during or after updating devices. There can be a BSOD as well. There is a compatibility issue.

The older drivers for Nvidia display adapters (GPU) might receive a stop error with a blue screen or other issues during or after installing the update. The affected drivers are any version lower than 358.00.

Hardware Against Software Piracy, aka Aladdin HASP,  is a suite of protection and licensing software. It uses two system files aksfridge.sys and aksdf.sys (filter driver to support external devices). These system files have a problem with May 2004 update. The affected version is up to 1.8.0.* for aksfridge.sys or up to 1.51.* for aksdf.sys.

2] Input Issues

IME is the abbreviation of the Input Method in Windows, which allows any data, such as keyboard strokes or mouse movements, to be received as input. IMEs for specific languages have issues with certain apps. For example, the input mode will not switch automatically to Kanji or Hiragana. The good news is that there is a workaround available that is using the previous version of Microsoft IME. Here is the link to the workaround.

Another Input issue is where there is no mouse input with apps and games visible when using GameInput Redistributable. These are third-party GameInput Redistributable that is bundled with apps and games.

3] Thunderbolt Dock problem

Stop Error when plugging or unplugging a Thunderbolt dock. It happens when at least one has Kernel DMA Protection enabled and Windows Hypervisor Platform disabled.

You can check if this is the case with you using Windows Features dialog > Windows Hypervisor Platform. If it is not checked, then the Windows Hypervisor Platform is disabled.

4] Other Issues

Make sure to keep a tab on the status page or contact your OEM to know when a resolution or fix will be rolled out.
