Microsoft Launches Outlook.com, A New Webmail Service

In an attempt to gain the lost market share from its competitors, re-imagine email, and replace aging Hotmail, Microsoft has launched a new webmail service called Outlook.com. The new personal mail service from Microsoft sports a fresh user interface and comes with some cool features.

The new webmail service comes with all the features you'd expect from a mail service. It sports a metro-style, clean user interface, comes with virtually unlimited storage, industry leading spam protection, and solid account protection.

Outlook.com automatically sorts mails from contacts, newsletters, and social updates. And the best thing is there are no display ads or large search boxes to distract you.

The moment you sign-in to your account, you will notice the fresh, clutter-free user interface. Click on the New mail to see the advertisement free interface mail compose area. Microsoft has removed many of the distractions that you see on the New mail page. Common options such as spell check, mail priority, insert hyperlink, insert emoticon, text alignment and text color are available.

Besides, Microsoft has included Office Web Apps (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote) in Outlook.com. With this, you will be able to create and edit documents without leaving your inbox. Outlook users needn't to worry about the file attachment limits (it's 300MB!) as the Outlook.com comes with SkyDrive to easily send large attachments.

The cool thing is that you can watch videos and view slideshows within Outlook.com. Probably the best thing about Outlook.com is that it doesn't touch your email and keeps your personal email personal.

And finally, Microsoft has included some settings to personalize your Outlook account to your taste. You turn off/on the reading pane, pane location, change the advertisement color text, highlight text, and link text color. Microsoft plans to include Skype in coming months. Once done, you will be able to call up your friends and family right from your Outlook account.

Visit Outlook.com right now and login with your Microsoft account to start exploring the new webmail service.
