With default settings, Microsoft Edge displays a Bing search box, your top sites or frequently visited websites, and suggested content on the new tab page.
If you are not happy with what you see on the new tab page of Edge, you can change the default settings of Edge to see what you like to see on the new tab page.
Unfortunately, unlike Firefox and Chrome, you cannot heavily customize the new tab page of Ede as there is no extension as such available for Edge yet. You cannot change Edge's new tab page background image or make Edge display news from your favorite news website.
On Edge, all you can do is control what kind of suggested content is shown on the new tab page. For instance, you can configure the Edge to show news about sports, money, and autos only. As said, you cannot choose the source from where the news is displayed.
In addition to suggested content or news, Edge's new tab page displays information cards. Information cards are nothing but large tiles on the right-side of the new tab page with quick information.
The weather information card displays current weather information, for instance. As of writing this article, Edge offers sports, weather, and money information cards, and you can enable or disable any of them under new tab page settings.
Customizing the new tab page in Edge browser
In this guide, we will see how to customize the new tab page of Edge in Windows 10.
Step 1: Open the new tab page of Edge using Ctrl + T hotkey. Alternatively, you can click the plus sign which appears at the end of the last tab.
Step 2: Click the Gear icon located upper-right of the page to open new tab page settings.
If you are getting a blank page instead, click Show top sites or Show top sides and my feed link to see the Gear icon.
Step 3: As you can see, here, you can configure the new tab to display either suggested content and top sites, only top sites, or a blank page.
In addition to that, you can choose news topics to show as suggested content. To select a topic, simply click on a tile. You can either select all of them or only topics that interest you.
If you want to turn on or off any information cards, you can do so here.
Finally, you can select your region/language to show news from that region only. For instance, if you choose Ireland, the new tab page will show suggested news/content from Ireland region only.
Click the Save button.
Lastly, there is no option to remove the Bing search box from the new tab page of Edge.
