Error 0x800F081F while installing .NET Framework on Windows 10

The .NET Framework is a software development platform developed by Microsoft. The framework was meant to create applications, which would run on the Windows Platform. There are many 3rd party software programs that require the .NET Framework installed in Windows. So PC users, try online or offline methods to install .NET Framework and in attempting to do so, sometimes gives rise to the error 0x800F081F. This post shows how to resolve this error.

Ways to install any particular version of the .NET Framework

  1. Your version of Windows might have it included in the default installation
  2. Use Turn Windows Features On or Off
  3. An application that required a particular version might install it during its own installation
  4. Some applications would send you to an external site to download and install a particular version of the .NET Framework.

How to fix error 0x800F081F

If you are facing problems while installing .NET Framework in Windows 10, check out the following method to fix the issue:

Press Windows + R. Type gpedit.msc in the RUN dialog box and hit Enter to open Group Policy Editor.

Now navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System.

In right-side pane, scroll down to find this setting:

Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair

It could be set to Not Configured or Disabled. Double-click it to open it's properties (see screenshot below).

Now set it to Enabled and check Download repair content and optional features directly from Windows Update instead of Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) option

Click Apply. Exit Group Policy editor. Restart your computer.

On boot, try to install .NET Framework again.

Note: If you are running the Home edition of Windows 10, Group Policy editor will not be available for you. To achieve the same fix on Home edition, you'll need to add GP Editor.
